Bristol Myers Squibb is partnering with Nvidia to build what the companies call the most powerful AI factory in life sciences, expanding the pharma giant’s computing infrastructure using Nvidia’s newest technology.
The AI factory will support drug discovery efforts across BMS’s pipeline, giving researchers access to accelerated computing for molecular modeling, protein structure prediction, and clinical trial data analysis. The announcement follows similar partnerships in the sector, including Eli Lilly’s $1 billion AI co-innovation lab with Nvidia announced in January.
BMS has been steadily integrating AI into its research operations. The company previously deployed Nvidia’s AI platforms for virtual screening and molecular simulation to identify drug candidates more quickly. The new factory infrastructure represents a step change in scale, designed to handle larger foundation models and multi-modal data spanning genomics, proteomics, and clinical outcomes.
The partnership reflects a broader trend among top pharma companies building dedicated AI compute capacity rather than relying solely on cloud services. Drug developers see proprietary AI infrastructure as a competitive advantage, particularly for generative drug design and large-scale biological modeling that requires sustained access to high-performance computing clusters.
