A new CHAI work group will draft the healthcare sector’s first peer-developed playbooks on frontier model cyber risk. The Coalition for Health AI expects to publish them before the end of the year.
The effort tracks the arrival of Anthropic’s Mythos-class frontier models, which CHAI says redrew the threat landscape for healthcare. Attack timelines compress and protected health information exfiltration plus ransomware become industrialized. Defenders meanwhile gain stronger tools for vulnerability management and incident response.
John Flores, chief information security officer for the University of Texas Medical Branch and a steering group member, said advances in AI change healthcare’s threat level and that the industry needs a real toolkit for hospitals of all sizes. Isaiah Nathaniel, CISO for Delaware Valley Community Health, said underserved and lower-resourced communities need a new playbook as AI brings new speed and sophistication to cyberthreats.
CHAI, a nonprofit focused on responsible health AI, announced the work group on August 12.
