Quest 3, a new software update for J&J’s Monarch robotic bronchoscopy system, won FDA clearance this week. The platform is used for lung cancer diagnosis.
Before a procedure, the software now draws more precise outlines around nodules on its own. Navigation and targeting tools adapt to anatomical shifts that happen during a procedure. A new 3D view links joystick controls to patient anatomy more clearly, and the update broadens compatibility with imaging systems.
During biopsies, the system keeps the view continuous, helping doctors steer to suspect nodules and diagnose cancer sooner. The tech came to J&J through the 2019 Auris Health deal. Intuitive’s Ion and Noah Medical’s Galaxy are the challengers now.
It is the fourth flagship software refresh for Monarch in the last year and a half. The win arrives weeks after regulators cleared Ottava, J&J’s soft-tissue robot, which will battle Intuitive’s da Vinci and Medtronic’s Hugo for share.
Accurate nodule planning and sampling decide how early lung cancer gets caught, making AI a competitive battleground in diagnostics.
