GE HealthCare has launched an AI-enabled operations product that forecasts hospital capacity constraints up to 72 hours in advance, with The Queen’s Health Systems and Duke Health as the first health systems to implement it.

CareIntellect for Operations produces unit, department and enterprise views of emerging bottlenecks. It analyzes hundreds of patient and operational data points, including bed availability, staffing levels, wait times, patient delays and ancillary services. Two proprietary models do the heavy lifting: a Pressure Forecast model that predicts resource constraints and an Estimated Day of Discharge model that continuously updates discharge predictions and prioritizes workflows.

The company says the application converts that analysis into prescriptive guidance tied to discharge, imaging, transfer and other capacity needs. It runs on AWS and is available both directly and through AWS Marketplace.

The launch targets a real operational squeeze. Inpatient volumes rose 5.3% in 2025, leaving many systems running at or near capacity while leaders spend hours each day reconciling data pulled from multiple systems. GE HealthCare says the platform builds on more than two decades of hospital operations work and Command Center deployments at nearly 500 facilities. The company has invested more than $5.1B in innovation since 2023.

Traditional capacity command centers concentrate data in a room and leave interpretation to staff. CareIntellect’s pitch is narrower and more automated: predict the crunch, then recommend the move.

Queen’s and Duke will serve as clinical evaluation sites, providing frontline feedback that shapes later releases. Neither system has disclosed deployment timelines or expected return on investment.
