Boston-based a2z Radiology AI now has clearance to flag 10 additional conditions on abdomen-pelvis CT scans. The FDA cleared its a2z-Abdo-Triage device, which watches for signs a radiologist should read first. With seven findings already cleared on an earlier product, the company’s acute care portfolio now spans 17 findings across two devices.

The software reviews scans taken with or without intravenous contrast in adults aged 22 and older. It flags suspected positive cases and pushes them up the worklist so radiology teams see the most urgent studies first. Radiologists still read the full scan and make the clinical call, which keeps the tool in a triage role rather than a diagnostic one.

The cumulative count is the point of the announcement. Triage algorithms are usually cleared one finding at a time, so a portfolio number signals how much of a radiologist’s shift the tool can realistically cover. Ten new findings in a single clearance is a large step for the category.

The device also carries FDA Breakthrough Device designation. Chief executive Samir Rajpurkar said care teams need support that reflects the range of cases they actually see, and framed the expansion as progress toward directing attention where it is needed.

Why it matters. Emergency radiology is where AI triage has found its clearest footing, because the value of catching a bleed or a perforation early is measured in minutes. Vendors now compete on the breadth of findings and on how cleanly flagging fits into existing reading workflows.
