XtalPi has spent years selling its AI and robotics platform to other drugmakers. Its own pipeline just reached the FDA.
The company filed an investigational new drug application for KQTD-126, aimed at chronic intestinal pain in irritable bowel syndrome and inflammatory bowel disease. It is the first candidate from XtalPi’s proprietary pipeline to reach that stage, a shift the Hong Kong-listed firm has been signaling since its interim results.
Confinement is the design goal. Company data show potency below 1 nanomolar, with exposure in the gut running more than a thousand times higher than in blood. The molecule is meant to work where the pain is and stop there. That matters because TRK inhibitors that reach the nervous system carry side effects which cap how long a patient can keep taking one. XtalPi says no rival has built a gut-restricted pan-TRK inhibitor for these two conditions.
An IND opens a regulatory clock rather than proving anything in people. The candidate still needs a trial that can show pain relief sustained over months, and the gut-restricted argument will be judged on whether patients gain benefit without the burden older drugs impose.
