As first reported by Healthcare IT News, Mayo Clinic in Florida is advancing its vision for smart, connected care through a new partnership with Clearwater-based tech firm hellocare.ai. The collaboration aims to integrate ambient clinical intelligence and AI-driven virtual care platforms into the hospital’s operations—optimizing resource use, improving patient outcomes, and making care more proactive.

This move comes as part of a broader effort to enhance both the patient and staff experience amid Mayo’s recent hospital expansion.

Hellocare.ai: powering the next generation of hospitals

Hellocare.ai, known for its ambient documentation systems, digital whiteboards, and hospital-at-home services, announced the Mayo partnership alongside news that the health system now holds a financial stake in the technology’s success.

According to Mayo Clinic Florida CEO Dr. Kent Thielen, innovation plays a central role in their expansion strategy: “Our mission is to combine world-class care with innovation that anticipates and solves tomorrow’s healthcare challenges,” he said in the announcement. The partnership follows hellocare’s recent $47 million investment round and supports Mayo’s nonprofit mission by reinvesting future revenue in patient care and research.

Making care more connected and personalized

Dr. Michael Maniaci, professor of medicine at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science, emphasized the shift toward a smarter, more integrated care environment. By embedding tools like AI-enhanced virtual rounding and digital engagement systems into hospital workflows, the clinic aims to reduce administrative burden, free up clinical staff for more patient-focused interactions, and expand 24/7 virtual support for patients. These tools also support more seamless admissions and discharge processes—critical for maintaining continuity of care in a growing hospital setting.

A growing trend toward smart hospital transformation

The Mayo-hellocare partnership reflects a global trend in healthcare innovation. Smart hospital initiatives, such as South Korea’s KHIDI project, have demonstrated that digital tools not only improve operational efficiency and safety but also enhance patient satisfaction—even among older adults. With more health systems exploring inpatient virtual care technologies, the goal is clear: modernize care while reducing burnout and personalizing the experience for both patients and providers.

Mayo Clinic Florida’s investment in ambient clinical intelligence, through its collaboration with hellocare.ai, signals a shift toward smarter, more human-centered healthcare. By combining cutting-edge AI technologies with its longstanding commitment to quality care, Mayo is poised to redefine how hospitals support patients and staff—setting a precedent for healthcare institutions worldwide.
