Abridge is opening its clinical intelligence layer to every doctor at partner hospitals, whether or not they document visits with its ambient tools. The company says more than 300 enterprise health systems covering 250 million patients are in scope.

More than half of Abridge users already query the decision support layer, and queries tripled in two months. CEO Shiv Rao, a practicing cardiologist, called adoption the fastest of anything the company has shipped, because answers stay grounded in the patient record and trusted medical literature.

Before a visit, clinicians get concise summaries. During care, they can ask chart-aware questions and receive responses tied to validated sources. Afterward, the system drafts referral letters and handoff notes drawn from the record. Clinicians can also earn AMA PRA Category 1 credit for questions they pursue.

Duke Health chief health information officer Eric Poon said the value is timing: the intelligence appears at the exact moment a clinician needs it, with context specific to the patient in the room.

The expansion turns Abridge from a documentation scribe into a broader clinical copilot, a strategy that intensifies competition with other ambient AI vendors and EHR-embedded decision tools. Abridge framed the rollout as making clinical intelligence available regardless of how a clinician documents visits.
