As first reported by Tech.eu, Ghent-based medtech startup PointCaré has raised nearly €1.5 million in funding from private investors to further develop and clinically validate its flagship platform, OnTarget. The AI-powered system is designed to centralize and interpret the overwhelming amount of data generated in operating rooms (ORs) and intensive care units (ICUs), providing clinicians with clear, context-based recommendations in real time.

A founder with a uniquely interdisciplinary vision

PointCaré was founded in 2022 by Dr. Henri Van Overmeire, a polymath whose background spans astrophysics, medicine, anesthesiology, and civil engineering. His experience on the front lines of critical care made it clear that despite high-tech equipment, many hospitals lack integrated systems that transform raw data into actionable insights. This gap inspired the development of OnTarget, which leverages proprietary agentic AI to deliver personalized clinical support — while avoiding the “black box” pitfalls of traditional AI models.

Tackling alarm fatigue and inefficiencies head-on

Modern ICUs and ORs are saturated with disconnected devices that generate immense data streams but fail to provide meaningful guidance. Dr. Van Overmeire emphasizes that these tools often ignore individual patient context, contributing to suboptimal treatments and alarm fatigue among staff. OnTarget addresses this challenge by unifying data sources, analyzing them in real time with full situational awareness, and presenting transparent, traceable recommendations to caregivers — enhancing patient outcomes while easing clinician burden.

Positioning for international growth and regulatory approval

Led by CEO Veronique Pattyn, PointCaré is not only developing a next-generation AI solution but also laying the groundwork for long-term scalability. The company has already filed its first patent and is preparing for European MDR approval. With commercialization targeted for 2028, the startup aims to set a new global standard for clinical decision support systems in high-acuity settings.

PointCaré’s OnTarget platform is a bold step toward redefining how healthcare teams interact with data in life-critical environments. By merging AI transparency with clinical relevance, the company is addressing longstanding inefficiencies in critical care — with the goal of improving both patient outcomes and provider workflows worldwide.
