Abu Dhabi says a single AI system now watches for patient safety risks across its entire hospital sector. The Department of Health – Abu Dhabi reports that, one year after launch, the platform connects 100% of hospitals in the emirate.

The network reaches past acute care. Long-term care facilities, dialysis centres and fertility centres are connected too, and the department puts the user base above 60,000.

The intent is predictive rather than retrospective. Rather than documenting harm after the fact, the system is designed to surface the patterns that come before incidents and route that signal to care teams.

Full coverage is the harder half of the promise. A safety model trained on one hospital’s records cannot protect a patient who is transferred, and Abu Dhabi’s population moves between public and private facilities. Connecting every site turns scattered warnings into one view.

The emirate has spent a year assembling the surrounding infrastructure: a genomic database approaching one million samples, a smart ring research partnership and a regulatory sandbox for medical AI. The safety network is the operational layer that makes those assets usable at the bedside.

Other health systems have built AI monitoring for single conditions, but few claim emirate-wide coverage. Whether the system reduces measurable harm will be the test that matters.
