Doctronic buys Summer Health, moves AI doctor platform into pediatric care Doctronic, the startup that bills itself as an AI doctor, has acquired Summer Health, a text message-based pediatric care provider. The deal marks the company’s first formal expansion into children’s healthcare. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. Summer Health offered families on-demand access to pediatricians via text message, covering everything from fever management to developmental questions. Doctronic plans to layer its conversational AI capabilities onto that existing service rather than replace the human clinicians behind it. The acquisition gives Doctronic an established patient base and a clinical workflow already built for messaging-based care. Summer Health had built relationships with pediatric practices and insurers across several states, creating a distribution channel that Doctronic can now scale with AI automation. Doctronic has positioned itself as an AI-powered primary care platform that can handle symptom triage, prescription refills, and follow-up monitoring through a chat interface. Adding pediatric care opens a larger addressable market, as children’s healthcare generates frequent, low-acuity visits that are well suited for AI-assisted triage. The move comes as regulators and health systems grapple with where autonomous AI fits in clinical medicine. Doctronic’s approach keeps a physician in the loop for treatment decisions while using AI to manage the initial patient interaction and documentation workflow. The startup has not disclosed whether Summer Health’s existing clinicians will remain with the combined entity or how quickly it plans to roll out AI features for pediatric patients.
