Israel’s Sheba Medical Center is bringing ChatGPT for Healthcare into daily hospital operations, in what the two organizations describe as the first international deployment of OpenAI’s enterprise healthcare platform.

Physicians, nurses, researchers and staff will get secure access across Sheba’s hospital network and mobile devices. The platform synthesizes medical research, clinical guidelines and public health information with citations, and Sheba plans to integrate its own clinical protocols, care pathways and policy documents so responses reflect the hospital’s approved standards.

Dr. Eyal Zimlichman, Sheba’s chief innovation and AI officer and founder of its ARC innovation program, framed the deal as part of a broader ambition. “We are not just implementing AI in medicine but building a fully AI-powered hospital, and providing secure access to the world’s most advanced AI is a decisive step in that transformation,” he said.

The rollout covers clinical decision support plus administrative and operational work, including automating routine tasks and reducing documentation burden. Sheba’s researchers also get early access to OpenAI models and will use the company’s API alongside the hospital’s existing AI technologies.

OpenAI will not train models on Sheba’s data. The deployment includes data isolation, audit capabilities and enterprise security controls, and clinicians remain responsible for medical decisions. ARC, Sheba’s Accelerate, Redesign, Collaborate digital innovation center, will lead implementation across clinical, research and operational teams in the coming months.

The deal signals how quickly hospital demand for generative AI is moving beyond pilots. Sheba, one of Israel’s largest medical centers, previously worked with Hippocratic AI on triage agents; the OpenAI integration puts frontier models directly inside the workflow of a major health system.
