Sunnyvale-based MaxQ Medical has closed a $31.5M Series A to advance its automated ultrasound platform for prostate care. Atlantic Blue Ventures, S3 Ventures and Olympus Innovation Ventures led the financing. Hillside Capital joined as a participant.

The company’s system merges imaging and treatment into one transurethral step. It gives urologists a live look at the gland while care is delivered, sparing the urethra in the process. MaxQ says that approach reduces common side effects and keeps the procedure in an outpatient setting.

MaxQ’s opening indication is benign prostatic hyperplasia, a frequent diagnosis in older men. Later uses include focal therapy for prostate cancer and more diagnostic work.

Chief executive Amir Tehrani said the funds will grow the team and advance the clinical program. The Olympus investment is notable: the device maker has been steadily backing digital surgery and imaging startups, and its participation signals strategic interest in urology robotics and ultrasound-guided therapy.

The round lands as investors pour money into less invasive prostate care. Transurethral approaches that shrink recovery times and avoid hospitalization fit that trend, though MaxQ still needs clinical data to show its system matches established options.
