Ask AI, a new generative assistant in Elsevier’s ClinicalKey, is now available at more than 1,500 US hospitals. The tool answers clinical questions quickly for physicians.

Clinicians type a question and receive a short, cited response. The answer draws only on ClinicalKey’s library of more than 900 journals, guidelines, overviews and books. Elsevier says Ask AI never searches the open web and holds no patient-identifiable information.

The rollout to existing US ClinicalKey customers begins in September. Omry Bigger, president of clinical solutions at Elsevier, said the feature meets clinicians where they need fast, reliable answers.

Every answer stays inside ClinicalKey’s curated library, Bigger said, which preserves the trust and security that hospital customers expect.

The move extends Elsevier’s push into hospital AI, which began with ClinicalKey AI in 2024. Hospitals are asking for answers with traceable sources as generative tools spread into clinical workflows.
