Harrison.ai, an Australian developer of AI tools that read CT scans and X-rays, has trimmed its local workforce while pushing into the United States.

ABC reporting, confirmed by the company’s government backer, shows the moves happened earlier this year. Redundancies hit some Australian roles, and more departures followed an overhaul that put AI agents at the center of how teams work.

Staff were told managers would act as player-coaches and every employee would orchestrate a fleet of AI agents.

Across the Pacific, Harrison.ai set up Frontier Radiology, a service that employs clinicians to write imaging reports on top of its algorithms. The venture pitches itself as AI-first radiology for American hospitals and health systems.

The Tran brothers, Aengus and Dimitry, founded Harrison.ai in 2018, starting with AI that helped choose IVF embryos. Its current products reach half of Australia’s radiologists and users in over 40 countries.

Funding history shows why the pivot matters. Total raised is about $333M. Early last year the firm was valued at nearly $400M, helped by a $32M check from the National Reconstruction Fund, the federal vehicle set up to back local industry.

The fund says Harrison.ai is shifting from building products to selling them, which changes the skills it needs, and that it still backs the company’s long-term plan.
