H1 snaps up Defacto Health for payer network data

H1 has acquired Defacto Health, folding the provider network data specialist into its AI platform as health plans fight inaccurate directories.

The price stayed private. What H1 did confirm is that it now owns Defacto Health, a data company that tracks how insurers assemble their provider networks.

Defacto’s records cover which doctors and facilities belong to which payer networks, plus which insurance plans each one accepts. Health plans lean on that information to grade directory accuracy, find pockets of bad entries and compare themselves with rivals.

This is less a new partnership than a formal one. Defacto had been supplying data to H1 for years before the deal.

After closing, Defacto runs inside H1 under its own name. Co-founders Ron Urwongse and Tarun J. Theogaraj came aboard with the acquisition and stay on to lead the unit. The pair previously held provider data and interoperability roles at CAQH.

Stale directories are the target. Networks churn when clinicians relocate, practices shutter and contracts change, stranding patients with outdated listings. H1 wants to blend Defacto’s network data with its own AI to sharpen that picture.
