OpenEvidence has signed NYU Langone Health to a collaboration that embeds its Patient Aware Clinical Intelligence directly in the system’s Epic electronic health record, announced October 29.

The distinction from a standalone chatbot is context. Clinicians pose a question in plain language inside Epic and receive answers grounded in peer-reviewed literature that can draw on the patient record in front of them, without switching applications.

Scale is the headline. NYU Langone handles about 12.4 million outpatient visits annually across New York City and Long Island, and ranks first nationally for quality in the Vizient assessment. Each encounter now sits in front of an evidence tool.

The deal extends a fast run of health system wins for the Miami-based company. Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center partnered October 22, Johns Hopkins Medicine October 13 and Northwestern Medicine October 12. The American Society of Addiction Medicine signed October 28.

The pattern matters for clinical AI procurement. Health systems are increasingly skipping pilots and wiring a single vendor into the chart itself, which makes swapping tools later far harder than a trial would.

OpenEvidence has argued that citation integrity separates it from general-purpose models, having previously reported zero invented citations in an internal audit as new frontier models launched.

Embedding retrieval in the workflow solves a real problem, since no clinician opens a second browser mid-visit. Whether patient-aware answering holds accuracy across 12 million encounters is the question this deployment now answers in public.
