Real-world data specialist Atropos Health is wiring its clinical decision support into Health Universe, an AI workflow platform used by care organizations.
Health Universe stitches records from EHRs and national health information networks into a longitudinal patient record. Its AI agents then summarize records, match patients to clinical trials and prepare clinicians before visits.
Through the deal, those agents can call on Atropos’ AI-driven analysis of clinical and real-world patient data to answer patient-specific questions inside existing workflows.
Doug Fridsma, chief medical and science officer at Health Universe and a former chief science officer at the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT, said the Meaningful Use era taught the field that evaluation and trust must be engineered into basic infrastructure rather than bolted on later. Embedding Atropos in a governed environment where every agent action stays visible, he argues, is the transparency clinical AI needs to earn clinician confidence.
Health Universe raised a $6M seed round led by Kleiner Perkins earlier this year, bringing its total funding to $9.5M. Atropos has partnered with Novartis, Databricks, Ontada, Emory Healthcare, xCures and Merck, and its tools already reach clinicians through Microsoft Teams.
The partnership is another sign that real-world data is becoming a core ingredient for clinical AI agents, as vendors race to ground model outputs in evidence rather than raw model recall.
