Withings is bringing AI sound analysis to BeamO, its compact FDA-cleared home device that pairs a clinical-grade thermometer, 1-lead ECG and digital stethoscope. Called StethO Sense, the new capability sits inside the Withings+ subscription and runs analysis on heart and lung recordings on request, returning results within seconds.
Heart sound screening leans on eMurmur Heart AI from CSD Labs, an algorithm cleared by the FDA for adults and children and validated in peer-reviewed studies, including a 603-patient pediatric analysis reporting 93 percent sensitivity and 81 percent specificity for murmur detection. Breathing pattern insights come from StethoMe.
The pitch is early detection. Households can capture heart sounds whenever they want, amassing a record of changes to show their doctor. Withings is careful to frame the output as screening data, not a diagnosis, to be reviewed with a clinician. Members get unlimited analyses.
The launch, announced September 4 from the company’s base in Issy-les-Moulineaux, France, extends BeamO from vital-sign gadget into a home screening record for heart and lung sounds. It also gives the Withings+ subscription a deeper clinical layer as consumer health devices push toward diagnostic-grade home monitoring.
