Multiply Labs has raised $75 million in Series B funding, bringing total backing past $100 million. Physician and investor Patrick Soon-Shiong led the round, with AstraZeneca, Lingotto and robotics maker Teradyne also participating.
The San Francisco company builds what it calls robotics clusters: enclosed, GMP-compliant cells that each hold a different piece of manufacturing equipment. Robotic arms shuttle material between them. The company reports the setup cuts cost per dose by 74% and raises throughput as much as 100-fold compared with manual production.
The bottleneck after the model
Multiply Labs started with cell and gene therapy, where many complex steps are still performed by hand and a single contamination event can cost millions. It is now extending the platform to antibodies, viral vectors and messenger RNA.
Customers own and operate the systems inside their own facilities rather than buying an outsourced service, which keeps validated procedures intact.
Executives frame the raise around a widening gap. As AI tools generate more candidate therapies than the industry can physically make, manufacturing capacity becomes the constraint that decides which programs reach patients.
The company will spend the money on capacity, engineering, regulatory work and commercial hiring.
