Two former Bose executives have pulled back the curtain on Legato, a hearing tech startup carrying $12M in funding. Its first product is a pair of glasses with AI built into the arms. The pitch: hearing support that looks like ordinary eyewear.

The product, called Legato Frames, uses AI to lift voices out of background noise instead of making every sound louder at once. The glasses are expected to launch this fall through select eye-care providers, and buyers may be able to use vision insurance when purchasing through a clinic.

Mehul Trivedi and Steve Romine, both former Bose executives, founded the company in late 2024.

The funding came from Neotribe Ventures, Listen and Village Global. Legato has not disclosed pricing, but told TechCrunch the glasses will cost a fraction of traditional hearing aids. The price gap is the wedge: a HearingTracker survey from July put the average clinic-purchased pair at $4,727, against roughly $502 for over-the-counter models.

The startup enters a hearing device market worth about $15B that now includes EssilorLuxottica’s Nuance Audio Glasses and Apple’s FDA-cleared AirPods hearing feature.
