Anthropic has signed Novo Nordisk as a pharmaceutical research customer. Researchers at the Danish company will test Claude Science models inside its R&D organization. Financial terms were not disclosed.

No drug programs named yetWhy it matters

The drugmaker says it will start small. Researchers will hand the models a set of specific scientific problems and R&D workflows where the company believes AI can deliver measurable gains.

Early work centers on biological reasoning. The aim is to see whether models can help scientists interpret complex biological information and carry out routine research tasks faster than existing tools allow.

No drug programs named yet

Novo Nordisk has not tied the collaboration to any drug candidate or clinical program. The company described the deal as part of a wider push rather than a bet on one pipeline asset.

Chief executive Mike Doustdar framed it as a step toward becoming the world’s most AI-driven healthcare company, pointing to earlier AI work with other technology partners.

That roster already includes Amazon Web Services, which became Novo Nordisk’s preferred AI partner for drug discovery in August, and H1, whose platform the company uses for trial design and site selection.

Why it matters

Pharma’s AI deals have mostly been compute and data agreements. This one puts a frontier model directly inside scientific reasoning, the part of discovery where expert judgment has been hardest to automate.

Anthropic has been courting healthcare steadily, from a trial-enrollment pact with ICON to senior-care software through its investment in Ode. Clinical validation remains thin across the category, so Novo Nordisk’s test problems will be watched closely.
