Boehringer Ingelheim now holds a license to K Pro, Owkin’s AI scientist. Multimodal patient data for oncology and immunology research is part of the package. The deal was announced on September 2.

Owkin and Boehringer Ingelheim first teamed up in a 2025 pilot built around the MOSAIC dataset. That earlier project mapped the tumor surroundings of a single gene target. Under the new agreement, Boehringer Ingelheim gains rights to existing multimodal oncology data. Owkin will separately produce fresh immunology datasets by drawing on its network of patient data partners.

K Pro becomes the main doorway to the data for Boehringer Ingelheim’s scientists. Owkin frames the platform as one workspace for interrogating datasets and repeating analyses with consistent results. Its reasoning engine can assist human-led reviews, the company says. It can also drive autonomous loops that generate, test and prioritize hypotheses.

Thomas Clozel, Owkin’s chief executive, points to deep multimodal data as the factor that will define the next decade of drug research. The German pharma joins AstraZeneca, which already operates K Pro under a multi-year license of its own.
