Epic Systems used its annual Users Group Meeting in Verona, Wisconsin to cast itself as the foundational layer for hospital AI, unveiling an expanded agent platform, Cosmos-powered predictions and broader workflow automation. Executives framed the push around embedding intelligence where clinicians already work rather than bolting on point solutions from vendors.

The company showcased new AI-driven tools for care teams and patients, including Ergo Visit, and leaned on Cosmos, its de-identified data network, to power predictive models. The message landed as rivals crowd the same turf. Endpoints framed Epic’s AI push as one that now overlaps with health tech startups, a sign the EHR giant is moving onto their ground.

STAT noted what Epic did and did not say: strategy took center stage, while specifics on pricing, timelines and safety guardrails stayed thin. The meeting also arrives as Epic faces antitrust scrutiny and questions about how quickly AI features can ship across its installed base.

Why it matters: UGM is Epic’s annual roadmap signal, and hospitals that run the platform will shape their AI purchasing around whatever ships from Verona. Clinics betting on ambient scribes, agentic billing and predictive triage now have a clearer picture of where Epic plans to take the system.
